Identity Theft
What to Look For
Identity Theft (“ID Theft”) can take many forms. Once thieves have your personal information, they can run up charges on your Aven Card, open an account in your name, or use your information for other illegal purposes.
To help determine if someone has stolen your identity, you should look for the following clues:
- You receive messaging from Aven despite never applying for an Aven Card
- You receive an Aven Card in the mail despite never applying for an Aven Card
- You receive official recording documents from your local county about liens filed against your property
- You see an unfamiliar account or charge on your credit report
- You receive a billing statement for an account you didn’t open
- You receive a billing statement containing transactions you didn’t conduct
- You get notice that your information was compromised by a data breach
What to Do
You will want to immediately take the following steps with Aven to ensure your account is protected moving forward.
- Contact the Aven Support team at
- Ask Aven Support team to freeze your account, freeze your card, and issue a new card to your home address
- Reset/Change your login and password
You may also want to do the following:
- Place a fraud alert on your credit profile with the following agencies:
- Report the ID Theft to the FTC. You can complete the online form or call 1-877-438-4338.
- Report the ID Theft to your local police department.

Information Security
Aven employs the following information security measures to protect you, your personal information, and your account. For more details, you can also view the Aven Privacy Policy.
Password Security
Aven requires that you setup an account password that is at least 8 characters in length, containing at least 1 letter, 1 number, and 1 special character. Additionally, you are required to complete Two-Factor Authentication prior to accessing your account for the first time and any time you access your account from a new device thereafter.
Failed Login Attempts
Aven limits the number of times you may fail an attempt to login to your account.
Customer Contact for Credentials
Aven will never proactively reach out to you and ask for personal information.
Aven will only request that you verify your identity in the following situations:
- You actively contact the Aven Support team via phone.
- You contact or schedule time with the Aven Support team, and they reach out to you in response to your initial request.
If you receive any requests for your personal information outside of these scenarios, please contact Aven Support immediately to report the suspicious activity.
